October 27, 11:48 p.m.: A Blaine resident reported her 17-year-old son as a runaway. The young man also has an outstanding warrant for his arrest. A runaway report was taken and a search was made of the area without success. The juvenile’s information was entered into law enforcement databases as a missing person and officers continue to look for him.
October 28, 5:03 a.m.: A person called police dispatch after hearing a loud noise in her home’s attic. An officer and a Border Patrol agent responded and conducted a search of her residence while she waited at a neighbor’s home. The source of the sound was not determined.
October 28, 8:32 a.m.: A business reported a transient was on their property bothering customers and panhandling. Police contacted the man nearby, and conveyed to him the store’s request that he not return to their premises. The officers gave him information on how to obtain public transportation to services.
October 28, 9:36 a.m.: A senior citizen called to report that almost $500 had been stolen from her in an Internet fraud. The problem started with a convincing man in a phone call explaining to her that her home computer was riddled with viruses and was being accessed by hackers. The crook convinced the lady to pay $449 to remove the infection. The victim’s bank is working on her behalf to have her account reimbursed.
October 28, 1:20 p.m.: Child Protective Services asked Blaine Police for help locating a family that may have moved to the area, as there were concerns the children might be at risk due to their adult guardian’s drug use. Officers provided the agency with the needed assistance.
October 29, 1:30 p.m.: Police responded to a motel on a report that a guest was refusing to pay his bill. When they arrived the manager explained the problem tenant was refusing to vacate his lodging. The officers went to the patron’s room to get his side of the story, but had to shout through the closed door to converse with him. The man claimed he was unable to depart because the door lock was broken and he had in fact been trying to get out of his room since the previous day. The tenant of a unit nearby noted that she had heard the guy the night before, yelling about being trapped in his room. Ultimately the manager pried off the lockset and got the door open. After taking in some fresh air and having a face-to-face conversation the gentleman gathered his belongings and departed.
October 29, 4:32 p.m.: A man entered a bank and gave an employee there a note announcing a bank robbery and demanding money. After committing the robbery he stepped outside and took a seat on a nearby bench. A Border Patrol agent and sheriff’s deputy were nearest to the scene when the 911 broadcast was made reporting the crime, and they detained the suspect until Blaine Police officers arrived. No one was physically injured, the money taken was recovered, and the suspect was booked into jail.
October 31, 4 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a disturbance in the area of the 200 block of H Street. Dispatch reported the person was yelling at the top of their lungs and crying. Officer arrived to find a young adult upset over an argument earlier in the night with his girlfriend. The person declined any assistance or help. He and the girlfriend were interviewed and counseled about domestic violence and disorderly conduct.
October 31, 1:05 p.m.: A woman came to the police department to ask for assistance caring for her pet dog. She was losing her home and unable to properly take care of the animal. An officer put her in contact withe the Whatcom Humane Society.
October 31, 2:21 p.m.: A man called police to report the theft of two bicycles. The bikes were stolen sometime within the past two days from the area of the Blaine Marine Gate 1. No suspects have yet to be identified in the theft.
October 31, 4:30 p.m.: Police stopped a vehicle when a license plate check showed the car’s registration was expired, although it bore current decals. The registered owner eventually admitted to scraping off another family member’s license plate decal and repurposing it without the relative’s knowledge. He did this because he could not get new tabs for his own car because he had an outstanding unpaid parking ticket. The driver was issued a new ticket for having an expired registration and operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and he was advised he might face additional charges as well.
November 1, 3:40 p.m.: An elderly lady on Boblett Street contacted an officer. She suffers dementia and had lost her way while trying to walk home. The officer was familiar with the resident and was able to deliver her to her home and husband.
November 2, 9:01 a.m.: A resident came to officers for help, reporting that his son’s video game system and numerous video games had been stolen from their home. Police investigated and found the gaming system and some of the games at pawn shops around Whatcom County. They also located the thief and arrested her.
November 2, 11:06 a.m.: An officer was dispatched to a business when the managers there discovered someone had taken the door hinges off a storage shed to gain entry to the room. An inventory determined nothing had been taken. Police are still investigating the why of the break-in.
November 2, 2:01 p.m.: A person came into the police station to report that a relative had come into her home and stolen a computer tablet and possibly a gold and diamond ring. Police located and recovered the tablet, and arrested the relative for the theft. She denied taking the ring and that investigation continues.
November 2, 4:27 p.m.: Police were dispatched to a storage facility for a possible theft from a storage unit. An officer arrived and contacted the renter who explained that his locks were still on the building when he arrived and nothing looked forced or suspicious on the outside. However when he opened the unit it looked like things had been moved around. The complainant will go through his property over the weekend and advise what if anything is missing.
November 3, 1:17 p.m.: A woman came to the police department to report a possible fraud. Luckily the woman asked her bank and they confirmed the incident was an attempted con. She did not fall victim to it and was not out any money. Officers documented the incident.
November 3, 3:09 p.m.: An officer and several Border Patrol agents responded to a possible burglary at a home on Bayview Avenue. Police arrested the suspect in the garage, where he apparently resides. The man was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail. A report on the burglary and other offenses is being forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
